Adding an EchoVideo Recording to Canvas

Instructors can add EchoVideo recordings for students to access through Canvas. This page will explain how to link an EchoVideo course or recording and embed an EchoVideo into Canvas.

Note: When creating a link to EchoVideo (either the section home or to a specific lesson), you're creating an External Tool or an LTI link (Learning Tool Interoprtability Link). EchoVideo links do not automatically carry over from semester to semester. Each semester, instructors must recreate these links. However, if instructors embed content following the third option, those videos remain after a course import.

Follow the instructions below to connect the EchoVideo course (all videos in the course) to the link.

  1. Navigate to the Canvas course.
  2. Select Settings >Navigation and for Echo360 if Echo360 is not in the Canvas course navigation menu.
  3. Click the 3 vertical dots, and select Enable. Then save the changes.
  4. Click Echo360 in the Canvas course navigation menu. The Connect page will open.
  5. Use the Step 2 dropdown menu to select the current semester course section.
    6. For Step 3, confirm Section home is selected.
    7. Click Connect

Instructors can create a link to EchoVideo in their Modules in a course (usually to a single video).

  1. Navigate to the Canvas course.
  2. Select Modules
  3. Select in the Module where you want to add a video.
  4. Select the External tool in the Add item window, to Add.
  5. Select EchoVideo from the external tool list.
  6. Give the link a descriptive name in the name field.
  7. Select Add. The link you created will appear in the module.
  8. Click the link you just added. The Connect page will open.
  9. In Step 2, select the current semester's EchoVideo course.
  10. In Step 3, select a specific lesson.
  11. Use the dropdown to select the specific video you want to link to.
  12. Click Connect

Instructors can also embed an EchoVideo anywhere they can access the rich content editor (on a page, in an assignment description, etc.).

  1. Open a page or activity in a Canvas course.
  2. Select Apps (plug icon) in the rich content editor.
  3. Select Echo360.
  4. Choose the way you'd like to add content (upload new content, choose existing content, or launch a browser capture to create new content)
  5. Follow the steps based on the choice in step 4.
